After 24+ hours of travel from Portland, Oregon, I arrived in Rwanda at 1:30am pretty disoriented. I’m here to document the Rwanda’s National Cycling Team as they prepare for and compete in the 2018 African Continental Championships which they are hosting for only the second time. The team arranged for my transportation from the airport to the hotel where the riders and staff are staying for the entire two weeks leading up to, and through, the Championships.
This is to say, when I woke on the morning of February 6th, I still hadn’t seen the Rwandan countryside. Today being the first day of camp, it was an easy two hours for the team’s men and women down to the Burundi boarder and back. This would be my opportunity to ease into working with the team, and seeing Rwanda for the first time!
